Designing The Secret of Kells is a wonderful artbook companion for the acclaimed animated film. The film itself is visually stunning and beautifully art directed. Fans of the film and art can now enjoy even more artworks in this 236-page hardcover. Collected within are character designs, storyboards and concept art for the scenes and environments. The style looks like they were drawn traditionally because of all the textures and characteristics of traditional medium. If they were drawn digitally, then I salute the artists for being able to create such a convincing traditional look. Each page is packed with pictures and commentary talking about the design. There are some sketches as well as full coloured paintings. Some full coloured artworks are so pretty they can be printed out as posted for framing on walls. The whole cohesive look and design works well and this is artbook is just a beauty.
