Sabian is one of the most famous cymbal manufacturers in the world. The company was founded in 1981 by Robert Zildjian, when his older brother became the head of the Zildjian company. Armed with a lifetime of knowledge and experience, he started over and created a company named after his three children, Sally, Bill and Andy (SaBiAn). Over time, Sabian grew into the respected company it is today, and now belongs to what has been dubbed 'the big four', along with Zildjian, Paiste and Meinl.Sabian AAX seriesToday, Sabian is known for their innovative cymbals, and the AAX line is what started it all. Like the AA-series, it consists of machine-made B20 bronze cymbals. The AAX series, however, receives very different hammering and lathing treatments, which results in a very different sound. It also has the exclusive Auto-Focus Response feature. Where other cymbals have a 'response threshold', meaning they sound best once they reach a certain volume, AAX cymbals respond with total accuracy at all dynamic levels, from low to high volumes.Sabian AAX 22-inch Omni cymbalThis unique cymbal once again proves that Sabian is all about innovations. They worked together with world-renowned drumming legend Jojo Mayer and have breathed new life into the crash/ride concept with the Omni cymbals. While effectively a type of crash/ride, the Omni cymbal receives no such classification from Sabian itself. The first thing you'll notice when you pick one up, is the extra-thin edge that contrasts with the weight of the cymbal as a whole. This thin edge allows the 22-inch Omni its lightning-quick attack which has more presence and a lower pitch than its 18-inch sibling, due to its larger size. The thick, unlathed inner part of the cymbal is noticeably thicker, and as such, it has a much drier sound. It allows for excellent stick definition and a cutting bell, while also giving the cymbal as a whole more volume.

Along with Zildjian, Paiste and Meinl, Sabian is considered as one of the 'big four' cymbal manufacturers, and rightly so! The company was founded in 1981 by Robert Zildjian, who left his family's company after his older brother Armand took the reins there. Armed with years of experience and great knowledge of the trade, he founded his own cymbal manufacturing company named Sabian - a name that derives from the names of his three children, Sally, Bill and Andy (SaBiAn).Sabian HHX seriesThe HHX series of cymbals is the modern counterpart to the vintage-sounding HH series, that was designed to add some aggression and attack to the dark, moody sound of hand-hammered cymbals. It is a line of high-end, 'Modern Dark' cymbals, cast from Sabian's special B20 bronze alloy (which contains 20% tin and traces of silver). These cymbals are hand-hammered by the master artisans at Sabian and tend to have a dark, yet powerful sound and a mid to low pitch. While retaining the personal qualities of hand-hammered cymbals, the HHX series also features Sabian's 'Tone Projection' design that enhances tone and projection.Sabian HHX 14-inch Evolution Mini Chinese cymbalThe HHX Evolution cymbals were designed in collaboration with renowned drummer Dave Weckl. While they remain true to the 'Modern Dark' classification of the HHX series, the cymbals in the Evolution line were designed to provide low resistance and speak with clarity, while also being exceedingly consistent across the board. This 14-inch Evolution Mini Chinese is a great little china with a dark, funky sound. Not only does it provide excellent little accents by itself, it is also very well suited for use in a stack. If you combine this Mini Chinese with a crash, you'll get a loud, trashy sound with plenty of musicality. This versatile little cymbal gives you plenty of options, so you can always find a place for it around your drum kit.

The dark, shimmering tone of this relatively large, 18-inch crash will linger just a bit longer and sound a bit deeper, making its musicality ever-so-slightly more evident than it is on smaller models. Thanks to the HHX 'Tone Projection' hammering this cymbal will cut through any music with ease, and the solid, unlathed but heavily hammered bell gives it plenty of volume without ever becoming overpowering. The AA stands for 'automated anvil', referencing the fact that these are machine-made cymbals - though those machines are still operated by the master craftsmen at Sabian, of course. This partly automated process allows Sabian to create a line of cymbals that have a specific sound that does not vary much from cymbal to cymbal, whereas no two hand-hammered cymbals are exactly the same.Sabian AA 14-inch medium hi-hatsSabian's 14-inch AA medium hi-hats consist of a great-sounding, versatile pair of hi-hats. They have a medium-weight top and a heavy bottom cymbal, which results in a bright pedal 'chick' and a rich stick definition when played closed, while they also have plenty of volume and a full, solid wash when you open them up. Thanks to the classic, bright AA sound, these hi-hats are well-suited for use in virtually any genre. Add this pair to your drum kit and you won't be disappointed!

This 12-inch Chopper is an unusual-looking cymbal that is sure to turn a few heads when you show it off on stage. It is made of B8 bronze and consists of three layers. The bottom layer is a solid B8 bronze disc which has been lathed to ensure maximum friction. The middle layer is unlathed and cut into a seven-bladed fan shape, and the top layer has the same shape, but has a brilliant finish and is offset so that the blades do not overlap. All these layers are held together by three rivets that allow for just enough movement between them to create friction. This unique design gives this effect cymbal a unique and dynamic sound that can vary from a small, almost hi-hat like accent when you strike it gently, to a more open, trashy sound when you strike it harder. Furthermore, it has a rapid decay, making it suited for even a rapid succession of accents. Just like any regular cymbal, the Chopper can be mounted on a cymbal stand, so why not give it a place around your drum kit?

Eventually the Vault line was disbanded and its cymbals were placed into one of Sabian's other series, depending on which one best suited their sound. The Artisan cymbals, however, were exempt from this rule and became their own series. They aim to combine a dark, vintage sound with modern brilliance, resulting in a line of premium cymbals that simply ooze musicality. It's no wonder that Sabian has classified these cymbals as 'Masterpiece Dark'.Sabian Artisan 16-inch crash cymbalFirst and foremost, this 16-inch Artisan crash cymbal exudes musicality. It has a beautiful dark tone and an even decay that ends with a satisfying shimmer. It speaks very quickly, reacting to even your lightest touch, and instantly delivers a rich, broad sound that possesses more clarity than that of its larger siblings. It has a relatively short sustain, as the initial attack quickly transitions into a shimmering wash that gently dies out. This Artisan crash is an extremely smooth sounding cymbal that is excellently suited for jazz and other styles that really allow this cymbals musicality to shine.
